George Harrison Rust was married twice and had 3 children in his first marriage and 10 children in his second marriage. The relationships mentioned on this web page will be based on the relationship to him. Many of the photos shown below came from research by George Harrison Rust's brother's (Charles Henry Rust) great-grandson, Richard Marvin Caudle. His photos and descriptions can be found on this link: http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/c/a/u/Richard-M-Caudle/index.html |
George Harrison Rust |
George Franklin Rust (some say it is George Washington Rust). He is the father of George Harrison Rust. When George's family moved to Guthrie, Oklahoma, George took a job in law enforcement. So his two twin sons, Frank and George Harrison found a man's head in an alley there. They ran to their dad to tell them what they found. So he investigated the incident and that's all they knew about it. |
Rachel Anna Littleton Rust (Wife of George Franklin Rust and George Harrison Rust's mother). People called her Annie. Annie was born June 1857 Spencer County, Indiana and died about 1928 in Logan County, Oklahoma. Daughter of Hugh and Elizabeth (Plackard) Littleton. When she passed away she was living with her son George Harrison Rust and George's second wife, Bonnie (Mankins) Rust. |
Rachel Anna (Littleton) Rust and Son, Charles Henry Rust |
Charles Wesley Rust (George Harrison Rust's grandfather and George Franklin Rust's father) Son of George & Mary McChesney Rust The above photo was based on the below photo. I, Ken Costello, did the retouching. |
Charles Wesley Rust (older photo of George Harrison Rust's grandfather) Probably taken around 1875-1880 at Loraine, Adams County, Illinois The above photo is a retouched version of the below photo. |
Eliza (Benson) Rust (Wife of Charles Wesley Rust and grandmother of George Harrison Rust) |
Josephine Loraine Rust (Daughter of Charles Wesley Rust and aunt of George Harrison Rust) Josephine was born January 15, 1869 in Loraine, Adams County, Illinois |
George Harrison Rust had a twin brother named Frank. Frank is on top. They were about 16 years old. |
Sons of George Franklin Rust. We think the line-up from left to right is Charles Henry Rust, George Harrison Rust, Frank Rust, & Samuel McChesney Rust |
Emma Rust (George Harrison Rust's oldest sister) On the right is an older photo of her. It was said she had 3 daughters but left them in an orphanage. She returned to them after they got older. |
Rose Rust is George Harrison Rust's sister. Rose married John Conley. Roy Conley sitting on ground; Clyde behind Roy; Claude; Gladys; Rose (Rust) Conley, John Conley. Man with plow is one of John's brothers - Tom or Hudge Conley. Picture at Waurika, Oklahoma. |

Frank Rust with wife Cordelia (Buntin) Berry Rust. Frank is George Harrison Rust's twin brother. |
George Harrison Rust on a mule |
We were told this was Sam Rust, but it doesn't quite look like him. It may be one of the other brothers or one of George Harrison Rust's sons from his first marriage (Herman). He looks a lot like George Harrison Rust's youngest son, Donald, from his second marriage, but this photo is too old to be Donald. |
Clyde Conley (on left) is a son of John and Rose (Rust) Conley. Herman is a son of George Harrison Rust and his first wife Zella (Davis) Rust. Herman was born in 1915 and died in 1983. Clyde would be George Harrison Rust's nephew. Herman Rust looks a lot like Donald Rust, who is George Harrison Rust's youngest son from his marriage with Bonnie (Mankins) Rust. Herman and Donald have similar lips, eyes, and nose. |
George Harrison Rust was a boxer in the army during World War I. He also was a foot soldier and was injured in the Battle of the Argonne Forest in France. The battle involved 1.2 million soldiers and was one of the last main offensives that brought the war to an end. |
George Harrison Rust and son, Walter Ellis Rust. Walter born March 8, 1911. Walter was from George Rust's first marriage with Zella (Davis) Rust. |
This is a grown Walter Ellis Rust with his daughter, Perdilla from first wife Frankie (Bible) Rust. Perdilla born June 4, 1940. This picture taken about 1945/46 probably at Grand Forks, North Dakota. |

On mule are Charles, Mary Ellen and Myrtle. By car are Annie and Marie in back. Their brother Aaron Rust by car. Their cousin Walter Rust (George Harrison Rust's son from first marriage) by dog. |

This was written by Carl Copher (Bonnie Mankin's older sister's husband). |
Below we will cover the children of George Harrison Rust and Bonnie Mankins. According to Ida Rust, George was his own man and did what he thought was right. |
The tall girl in the middle is Bonnie Mankins. On the left is Bonnie's sister Eula. On the right is her brother, Bill. The baby's name is unknown (he died during childhood). |
MANKINS: From left to right is Eula, Bonnie, Irene, and Bill. siblings not shown are Lester, Jan, and Virgie (remember George H. Rust also had a sister named Virgie). Bonnie's sister, Jan Mankins-Copher is not shown. As of January 2015, Jan is the only one still living. She's had a home outside of San Diego for many decades. Location of photo: Shawnee, Oklahoma. |
George and Bonnie (Mankins) Rust had 10 children. Below is Dwayne, Ida Mae (my mother), and Dale |
This is Dale (left) and Dwayne a little older. On the right is Donald, their youngest son. |
Below left to right is Donald, Dwayne, Dale, and their friend Tony. |
Here is George Harrison Rust with his youngest son Donald. Photo taken in Paris, Texas. |
This is George Rust at two ages. |
Ida Mae Rust is the tall girl in the middle of the top row. |
On the left are Marilyn and Carolyn. They are George Rust's youngest daughters. There were also twins. On the right is a friend. |
These are all of George and Bonnie Rust's daughters. Left to right: Juanita (oldest), Carolyn, Ida, and Marilyn. |
Below is George Rust with his middle daughter (Ida Mae). Company was coming, so Ida put on a hat and dress shoes on for the occasion. Bonnie Rust took the photo. This photo was taken in Hugo, Oklahoma in front of their home. This house was in the city but still had an outdoor toilet and no running water in the house. The family thought they were having it pretty good. Ida was 17 in this photo and was working for the only bakery in town. She started working there when she was 16. Her wages was $27 a week, which was pretty good for the time. |
Ida Mae Rust and Ralph Rust. Ralph was the second oldest son of George Rust. |
Ralph Rust's Army photo |
Roy (middle) is George and Bonnie's oldest son. Earl (left) is another son. Gene Costello (right) is husband to Ida Mae (and my father). |
Here is Earl again (right) and his friend James Hawkins. They are in Germany. |
Here is George Rust with his daughter Ida (by car). Two of Ida's kids, Ken (me) and Debbie are in the photo. This was taken in Glendale, Arizona (near Phoenix). |
Here is George Rust again. All of Ida's kids are with him. Jerry, Debbie, Danny (Dan), and Kenny (Ken). This is at the same location. The year was around 1961. This is where George and Bonnie Rust was living at the time. The car is Ida's. |
This photo has five of George and Bonnie Rust's offspring. Left to right: Marilyn, Ida, Roy, Joyce (wife of Ralph), Bonnie (wife of Roy), Ralph, and Donald. |
Another photo of Roy Rust and his wife Bonnie. Roy by beach. |
Not the most flattering photo, but this shows Ida and her older sister, Juanita. |
This is Bonnie and George Rust in their later years. Their grandkids affectionately called them Big Mom and Big Dad. The photo was taken in Wasco, California. They didn't like their photos taken, so there aren't too many photos of them. |
This is the only photo of Bonnie Rust where I've seen her smiling. To me she was always pleasant and giving, but if someone had a camera, she wasn't too happy at that. The boy is Donald's son, Glen (Colt) Rust. |
Here is Bonnie Rust (Big Mom) avoiding the camera. In the back row left to right: Bonnie, Juanita, her son Randy, her husband Don Martin, boy (unknown), and Donald. In front left to right. Carolyn, Juanita's daughters Darlene and Kathy (behind paper). Juanita's son Michael, and then Marilyn who always likes to make faces. |
Below is a funny picture of my mother, Ida Mae (Rust) Costello and my uncle Donald Rust (right). I guess when you get bored, you dress up and take funny photos. Ida was in her mid twenties. Donald was a teenager. I was about 5 years old. |
Another funny photo with my mother, Ida and my aunt Marilyn. |
My mother, Ida, and I put together the following photos to make fun of what we saw at Thanksgiving. George and Bonnie Rust are there with their sons Donald and Ralph. |
The Ida's from George Rust's two marriages finally meet. Ida (Rust) Costello and her sister, Carolyn (Rust) McGraw traveled from Phoenix to Texas to meet their half-sister, Ida (Rust) Wier. |
Big Dad (George Harrison Rust) was bed-ridden his last few years. His daughter, Ida (my mother) took care of him during that time. Also, Bonnie Rust's last year was also spent at Ida's house. We certainly miss both of them. George Rust and his two marriages with Bonnie and Zella created a huge family tree. It's a family tree that we are proud to belong to. |
